IMPAC has been helping New Zealand businesses get people home safe since 1999. Today, that means a lot more than a brochure website. Their digital presence needs to explain a broad range of advisory, training, software and prequalification services, support customers right across the country, and make a large catalogue of health and safety training easy to understand and book. The old setup had grown in pieces over time. We brought it together as one coherent platform.

This was a ground-up rebuild, not a new coat of paint. We started with the information architecture, working through dozens of existing pages and the very different journeys of business owners, health and safety teams, course bookers and individual learners. Navigation was simplified, related services were pulled into clearer groups, and the content was reworked so people could find the right answer without first needing to understand how IMPAC is structured internally.

Behind the website sits Sanity, with a modular page builder designed around the content IMPAC actually publishes. Their team can assemble landing pages, service content, calls to action, FAQs, resources, articles, team profiles and course-led sections without wrestling with rigid templates. We migrated the existing content, images and internal links into the new structure, then added preview, redirects, search, structured metadata and automatic sitemap support so the move did not come at the expense of years of search visibility.

Training is where the project stops behaving like a normal marketing website. IMPAC's course catalogue is live data, with different delivery methods, locations, dates, session times, prices, availability and registration requirements. We built a purpose-made catalogue that lets people search and filter the range, compare the ways a course can be delivered, and move from a detailed course page to the right upcoming event without being bounced into a separate third-party experience.

Arlo remains the source of truth for courses and events, while Sanity gives IMPAC control over the richer content around them – photography, course overviews, accreditation details, FAQs and supporting downloads. A NestJS API and PostgreSQL database sit between the systems, regularly synchronising the catalogue and presenting one clean, reliable interface to the website. That separation means the public experience can be designed properly without asking the training team to replace the operational system they already know.

The booking flow was designed for how workplace training is actually purchased. Someone can book for themselves or organise training for several colleagues, add different attendees to different courses, and answer the specific questions each registration requires. The cart checks current pricing and availability before checkout, supports guest and account-based bookings, applies eligible discounts, and handles both card payment through Stripe and invoicing for approved customers. GST, receipts and payment status are all accounted for rather than left for someone to untangle later.

There is a lot happening after the button gets clicked. The platform keeps the booking, payment and Arlo records connected, prevents stale or duplicate registrations, and gives IMPAC's training team a dedicated administration area for reviewing orders, managing discounts and progressing registrations through their existing approval workflow. Failed hand-offs can be retried and reconciled instead of disappearing between systems. It is the unglamorous part of a booking platform, but it is also the part that lets the business trust it.
