Astro Web Development
For websites that send HTML, not homework.
Most modern websites send a browser a large bundle of JavaScript, then make it assemble the page before anyone can read it. That's a lot of effort just to show some words and pictures. Astro builds each page into finished HTML ahead of time, and only loads JavaScript for the parts that actually need to move.
We liked it so much we rebuilt this very website with it. Every page you're reading is plain HTML served from Cloudflare's edge network. Our content lives in version-controlled Markdown, checked against a schema whenever we build, so a typo breaks the build instead of the page. The only server code left handles the contact form and project enquiries from AI agents.
The result is a website that's fast for your customers, easy for Google to read, and refreshingly boring to host.
These are some Kiwis who make great decisions, ourselves included.
Seriously fast websites built with Astro.
Static by default. Interactive where it earns its keep.
Astro shines on websites where content does the selling: marketing sites, product sites, microsites and resource libraries. When something needs to move, like a calculator, a product demo or a booking widget, we build it as an "island". That's a self-contained React, Preact or plain TypeScript component that loads on its own, often only once it scrolls into view. The rest of the page stays as lightweight HTML.
Less to run, less to go wrong.
A static Astro site has no application server, no plugins to update and no database waiting to be attacked. It can be hosted almost anywhere, from a global edge network to a server in New Zealand. Content can live in Markdown alongside the code or come from a headless CMS, depending on who needs to edit it and how often.
If your project is closer to software than a website, with logins, dashboards and lots of live data, we'll tell you. That's where Next.js or Laravel is the better tool, and we'll recommend whichever suits the job.
